Achievements/Institutional Best Practices - Academic Achievements
VILLEGE LEARNING CENTRES
The Honourable secretary,TGTWREIS, has introduced a novel concept involving the UG students of the TGTWRDCs for transferring the knowledge they obtained to the youth and other students in their villages during covid -19 lock down times. Students of Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society have risen to the occasion during the challenging times of corona pandemic by converting an adversity into an opportunity. TGTWRDC(W), Kothagudem, Students themselves started a silent academic revolution in Telangana’s rural villages and tribal areas by launching Village Learning Circles (VLCs) to promote continuity of studies, while schools remain closed in lockdown times. Tenacious and zestful students with excellent communication and teaching skills have set the ball rolling by converting homes, church compounds, religious places, school buildings, community halls, etc., as learning centres with the support of village sarpanches, public representatives, volunteers, parents, teachers and community members. Some exceptional and brilliant students from classes 6 to degree have been diligently conducting themselves as teachers and imparting education to their younger schoolmates and peers in his/her village/locality as pandemic keeps schools shut.
VLCs have been keeping the lamp of learning shining and bridging learning gap and digital deprivation in extraordinarily challenging times of covid 19. VLCs are serving as ideal platforms for poor and underprivileged children to keep up with their studies, despite lack of resources like smartphones, internet connectivity, laptops, . Each VLC comprises 10-15 students from all classes from both government and private educational institutions and classes are conducted for 2-3 hours per day as per the timetable. Quiz, spell bee, essay writing, poetry, art & craft competitions and English –Plus club activities are organized, besides regular classes. Students attending VLCs strictly adhere to the covid safety protocols including wearing face masks, cleaning hands with sanitizer/soap and maintaining physical distance. In charge lecturers remotely monitor VLC activities and guide’ student teachers’ in pedagogical methods, assignments and project works considering different categories of students and their abilities.
The academic centers of Gurukulam provide opportunities for students and faculty to engage with learning and enrichment in various domains of inquiry, promoting collaboration across organizational boundaries and so complementing the Colleges, Departments, and Programs.
